When I’m off-shore grouper fishing or looking for some mangrove snappers I’ve learned a few tricks that can help bring those reef monsters to you. Often I’ll leave my motor running and even rev it up to almost call in fish that are curious like Cobia. Fishing for my bottom dwellers is fun, but a fisherman needs to be ready for any opportunity especially ones that taste great! As a general rule of thumb have a bait on the surface when fishing offshore like a pilchard or a crab. Another rod should be sitting in your rod holder with a buck-tail jig in the 1 too 2 ounce size , my choice would be yellow or black. When a pack of Cobia comes around you may only have seconds to get that something out in front of them. So pay attention while your jigging and when the opportunity comes getter done. Tight lines g.
