Well, the wind just keeps blowing, and even my Easter bunny ask has not worked. This means my dog is still allowed to chase rabbits at full speed. There was basically three days that the nearshore and offshore boats have been able to get out all week. You know things are tough when the offshore guys are fishing the nearshore guys wrecks and reefs. It is also a sign when tower boats are in the back bays, so, Ya that is what’s going on.
Starting off with my wish list of cleaner water and lower winds, has not gone well this week. We did have two days when winds were under 10 for at least the first 4 hours in the morning which felt weird. I promise all of you anglers this will change soon. To summarize, the offshore trips got out 10 miles, the nearshore guides were either on the beaches or in the backcountry, and the backcountry guides were like “Get out of here, this is my house”.
The big boats that did hit the nearshore wrecks and reefs basically had the place to themselves. Permit continue to be caught as well as an occasional cobia. There really has not been many other targets to go after, as no one went out further. These boats are looking forward to lower winds so they can get back out to 35-45-miles sooner than later.
Nearshore thrips and back bay trips fall into the same category this week. There were a few days when the winds blew from the Southeast too Northeast. Those days tarpon was caught along the beaches out to 1 mile. Crabs, cut baits, as well as large artificial lures worked. The back bays were decent even though the water continues to be dirty. Tarpon, redfish, as well as trout & redfish are the staple now, and will only continue to get better. Pompano will get good again when the water cleans up sooo, I’ll ask the Easter bunny again.
